I know nothing about snakes; we only have adders and grass snakes over here.
Are pythons poisonous? What do they eat?
 

Pythons are pretty harmless, unless they're over 8 feet, then it's a good idea to have two people around when handling them just in case they start constricting you. But mine will top out at around 5-6 feet, so really the only damage they can do is to bite you. They're not poisonous, but they've got lots of little razor sharp needles for teeth, so if they bite you it doesn't hurt that much but bleeds like you wouldn't believe.

They eat rodents, mainly mice and rats, but adults can eat small rabbits. I've got a freezer full of rats which I thaw out and warm up, the snakes take em just fine. Most responsible keepers feed pre-killed prey, it's safer for the snake, cheaper (I buy frozen rats 100 at a time), and some people say it's more humane for the mouse than being killed by a snake. Actually in Great Britain it's illegal to feed a reptile live prey items. One thing that would drive me crazy about living in England would be the lack of wild snakes, or at least the diversity we have here. It's fun to go back in the woods and see what I can find.
 

Also, my snakes are tame and don't bite. I've been bitten twice since I've been keeping snakes, and both times was just a misunderstanding around feeding time. Just an instinctive strike before they realized I wasn't a mouse. Most snakes will tame pretty easily and let you handle them once they get used to you. Mine are all sweethearts 99% of the time.

Now that you mention it, I haven't been bitten since I stopped the chicken-broth baths..... maybe that was why they bit me..... and it's not useless trivia, considering I'm a biology/zoology major. Knowing about rocks is useless trivia. Barstard.

Anyway, do you have to keep your snakes in special containers?

Personally I like rocks and and biology. (And freak weather and anything gory or potentially lethal.) So carry on, both of you...
 

I like geology too, but I'm just saying that it's more useless than knowing about snakes and biology, at least for me. My snakes each have their own cage, right now they're just in plastic Rubbermaid tubs, which make excellent snake cages. Once they grow up I'll have to get something bigger like actual snake cages for them.
My cat's not a clone of yours, but I'll get a picture of her up later. She's huge, I think she's a cross between a cat and a black panther.
 

Y'see I say that about mine, but I suspect that you actually do have black panthers wandering around America, which we certainly don't here...

up here we have a mountain lion, which is about the same thing (except not black) and just as dangerous...
