  - I Want To Go To The Zoo -

Well, it's been a while, I figure I should post something. There's not really anything interesting going on around here though, at least nothing anyone would want to hear about. The daily routine of getting up, going to school, and watching TV all evening makes for lousy stories. I was looking around online last night though and checked out the website for the Columbus Zoo, and found out that it's right down the street from me. Well, 10-15 minutes down the street, but real easy to get to anyway... so I want to go check it out. I just need to find someone to go with me.... It looks like thay have some interesting stuff. They claim their reptile house is one of the best in the country, but from the list of animals it didn't look to be anything special, so I'm going to have to go see for myself. If for no other reason than the fact that I'll probably be interning there at some point in time during my schooling. If it's nice, I may even end up working there after I get done with school. Even though I'd kind of like to move somewhere a bit warmer, staying in Ohio wouldn't be so bad. Maybe if I use a ton of aerosol cans global warming will wipe out winters in Ohio by then. You know what Drew Carey said... "Fuck the grandkids, I'm cold now!"

Alright well that's all for today. For now anyway.... I may get bored again later.

  - Makes Me Want To Go Run Around In The Woods -

"One final paragraph of advice: Do not burn yourself out. Be as I am - a reluctant enthusiast... a part time crusader, a half-hearted fanatic. Save the other half of yourselves and your lives for pleasure and adventure. It is not enough to fight for the land; it is even more important to enjoy it. While you can. While it is still there. So get out there and mess around with your friends, ramble out yonder and explore the forests, encounter the grizz, climb the mountains. Run the rivers, breathe deep of that yet sweet and lucid air, sit quietly for a while and contemplate the precious stillness, that lovely, mysterious and awesome space. Enjoy yourselves, keep your brain in your head and your head firmly attached to your body, the body active and alive, and I promise you this much: I promise you this one sweet victory over our enemies, over those deskbound people with their hearts in a safe deposit box and their eyes hypnotized by desk calculators. I promise you this: you will outlive the bastards."

  - I've Got a Bad Case of The Mondays -

I've been sitting here for the past ten minutes trying to think of something interesting to write about today, but as SIB would say, I got nothin. But I've got a couple things to bitch about at least. Number one is college campuses only being able to sell one brand of soda. And not just college campuses, but restaurants, stadiums, and all kinds of places. They either have Coke products or Pepsi products (very rarely 7-up products), but never both. I'm assuming there's some kind of deal they make with the soda companies or some rule or something that you have to pick one brand. And of course OSU has Coke products, which I don't like. Although I am getting used to Cherry Coke out of necessity, it would be nice to be able to get a damn Pepsi. I just think it's annoying, and people should have the choice to buy whatever they want, not whatever brand the school made a deal with.

Number two is those stupid Boost Mobile cell phones or whatever they are that have that damn "chirp" thing for the two-way radio phone thing. I hate that noise so much it's not funny. Every time I hear it I want to grab the person's phone and smash it on the ground. I blame their retarded commercials mostly, but it's also just annoyance with people that use them all the time in public places and you keep hearing that stupid chirp and have to listen to their whole walkie-talkie style conversation. Seriously, would it be that hard to just call the person and talk to them?

Ok enough bitching for now. Time to go sit through math class with one of the dumbest girls ever to live. Later, Goob

  - Snake in a Bathtub -

She didn't want to shed her skin by herself, so I had to give her a little bath and help her out. Let me tell you, getting a stuck eyecap off of an angry snake that doesn't like having it's eyeballs touched isn't a pleasant experience. But I got it, and she probably feels much better now, especially since I'm not holding her down trying to rub her face with a damp towel.

  - make them go away -

My nice quiet between-class hideout has been taken over by a large group of loud people for some kind of conference thing. Not sure what it is, but their food looks good..... maybe I can sneak up and swipe some without anyone seeing. No, probably not, they're all wearing suits and shit, I think they would probably notice me. Oh well, I have to go back to class in a little bit anyway.

For some reason lately I've been feeling the urge to get another tattoo. I've wanted another one for a long time, but it's been on my mind a lot more lately. Maybe it's from all the Miami Ink commercials on TV again. We'll have to see how my finances hold out. Maybe I can get one with my tax refund. Tax refund time is a great time of year. Even though it's all money that I earned, and the government took for themselves, at least they give some back. It's kind of like a late Christmas present from Uncle Sam.

I was watching a show yesterday on the NatGeo channel about tattoos, and they were talking about the art of tattooing in Japan. I forget what it was called, but they get tattoos all over their body, but leave certain parts bare so that they can all be covered up when you're wearing clothes. But all the tattoos are all supposed to represent a certain part of your life. The idea is that when you die, your body is dead, but your whole life is represented in the tattoos on your skin, so in a way you're not really dead, or gone. Or something like that. But I think that tattoos can definitely serve as a reminder of certain periods or events in your life. I see it all the time on the tattoo shows, people saying they're getting one so that whenever they see it, they remember a certain time or a certain feeling that is important to them. And a lot of people who have lots of tattoos can pretty much tell you their life story through their tattoos. I find this very comforting. The idea that the tattoo is there permanently usually makes most people put considerable thought into one before they get it, and once you have it it's a great feeling that it's going to be there forever. Whether it's to remind you of something, or represents something you love, or you just plain think it looks good, getting a tattoo gives you this feeling that's hard to describe. Almost everyone I've known who has a tattoo has wanted another one. And I'm all for it.

Ok, enough of that. So how bout this crazy weather? It's been so long since it snowed I thought we might get through winter without any more. I was hoping anyway... But of course last night I look out the window and it was starting to snow. And it still is. At least it's not accumulating much, and it's supposed to warm back up tomorrow. Man I'm a dork.... always talking about the weather.

Alright I'm tired of sitting here on the computer. I guess I'll read for a while. You barstards. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.......

  - The Weekend in Review -

So I ended up going home to Cincy for the weekend. It was good to get out of the apartment and have some fun and see the folks. I took Smelly with me since she gets so nutty when she's left alone. I didn't want to leave her here and come back to a psycho cat and a torn-up apartment. But she doesn't seem to mind too much. I think she liked having other cats to chase around again.

Saturday night Mike, Nina, and I went bowling. Steve was supposed to come, but I guess he found something better to do and wouldn't answer his phone. Anyways.... I whooped Mike and Nina's asses. Ha ha ha ha ha...... actually I think that was the first time I've beaten Mike all 3 games. I guess I was just on a roll. It was fun though.

Today we watched the Pittsburgh-Indianapolis game over at Steve's. All I'm going to say about that is that I hate the damn Steelers. I really hope they get their asses handed to them next week. Ok I'm going to go watch X-men United. I haven't seen it yet and it's on the telly. Later....

  - Ok I've Settled on a Font -

Apparently all the files for the other font I was using were no good, so I picked a new one that you can download. It looks pretty much the same, just a tiny bit different. So get this font on your computer so you can see it. It's called "Love Letter typewriter" or "Love LetterTW", and you can download it here: http://www.free-typewriter-fonts.com/Fonts.html. Just select it from the drop-down menu and install it on your computer.

  - This is kind of annoying.... -

I only have one class on fridays, which I thought would be nice. Just a bus ride to school, sit through a short class, then go home and go back to bed. But class gets out at 9:18, and the bus comes at 9:20. There's no way I can make it to the bus stop in time unless I leave class early, which I'm not going to do. So I have to wait an hour until the next bus comes. It's not a huge deal, it would just be nice to get back home quickly. Today is a beautiful day though, for now. About 55 degrees and sunny. It's gonna rain later though, but at least it's relatively warm.

Did the new font show up for everybody? It should look like a typewriter. I don't know if everyone else has that font on their computers, but I like the way it looks.

I didn't think anyone ever looked at my evolution blog, but I changed the address and Mike complained, so here's the new address if anyone is interested. http://endlessformsmostbeautiful.blogspot.com . The link from my page works as well. The name comes from the last line in Darwin's Origin of Species, describing the product of evolution, and I liked it so I changed the name of the Blog. I'll probably be posting a review of and my thoughts on one of the books I got for Christmas as soon as I finish it, which shouldn't be too long. Well so long everyone, have a nice weekend.

  - The New and Improved World of Goob -

Ok well I think I've got everything the way I want it. Spent a good part of the day going through and changing all the spacing and colors and font sizes and everything, and I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out. I guess I just got sick of the other one, it wasn't very fun. This one's much easier to customize. Ok well that's all for now. I'm off to do some homework.....

  - Please be Patient During the Remodeling... -

You may have noticed things look a little different around here.... I'm trying out some changes to see how I like them. It make take me a while to get things the way I want them, I'm playing with the template and my HTML and CSS skills aren't what they used to be. I hope you all like the new look....

  - God's a Bastard -

A picture on Abs's Blog reminded me of this picture that someone sent to me a long time ago but I had forgotten about. I looked it up online and there is actually a bunch of information and stuff about it online. I guess it's a popular picture. Well I think it's damn funny.... so I'll put it up here.

  - Hooray... My Computer Works at School -

I finally figured out how to get it working, so now I can play on the internet on my breaks while sitting in a nice comfy chair instead of in some annoying computer lab. I don't really have much to say at the moment... things are still going well here, although getting up at 7ish every morning is going to wear on me after a while. Who am I kidding, it already is. I don't have anything else to do when I get home from school so I usually end up taking a nap, and then it's hard to get to sleep at a decent hour to make getting up early easy. I took an extended nap yesterday, and last night I couldn't sleep at all. So I only got 2 hours of sleep, and today is a long school day. Yes, I know I'm a whiner, but it's my Blog, I can complain all I want to.

Someone wrote a phrase on the side of a building that I think Mike would enjoy. They wrote "Try Jesus Flavored Ice Cream" on the wall with chalk. It made me laugh a little. But then later I saw a squirrel looking around at the base of a tree, and saw that there was another dead squirrel he was looking at, and that made me sad. They were probably friends.

I think I may come home to Cincy this weekend, but I haven't decided yet. There's no class monday for MLK day, and I need to do some laundry. I haven't found the laundromat yet, plus it's free at home. I don't know.... I'm going to try and find something to do up here, maybe there's a good show I can go to. But I doubt it.

Anyways.... That's all for now, I'm going to look through the school paper for a couple minutes before I head on to math class. Later. Sanam formam vitae conservate.

  - I Hate Getting Up Early -

Well I promised an update after classes started, so here you go. So far classes seem pretty good. Latin seems like it's going to be pretty hard, apparently there's a lot more grammer than in english, but so far it's really interesting. And the teacher's cute, so that always helps. Math is math, although it's going to be a lot different than my math class at UC. This one is all about using graphing calculators and stuff, and in my other class we weren't allowed to use calculators at all. And my english class, which isn't really an english class, is all about humor and joking. It's a writing class called "The US Folk Experience", and the teacher is a Folklorist. She wanted to make the class interesting, so she made the theme for the quarter "Joking Matters". So we're going to have some readings from other folklorists about humor and stuff, and then do a project for the end of the quarter. We spent most of the whole first class talking about our favorite TV shows and joking around. She's one of those teachers who's middle aged but think they're still a college student, and she was going on with some of the students about what next season will be like on "The OC" and "Laguna Beach". She had never even heard of Futurama though, so she wants me to tape a few episodes for her. Should be an interesting class.

Riding the bus is pretty nice, it makes getting to school much less complicated when you don't have to park and walk a long way. You just get on, sit there and listen to music, and it drops you off on campus. Only bad thing is that it's about a 35 minute ride, but I've got my iPod, so it's not that bad. Monday and Wednesdays I have 2 breaks between classes, which makes the day much longer than it needs to be. There's a building with a whole bunch of comfy chairs and couches though, so I've been hanging out there reading. And it's got wireless access, so I'll probably start taking my computer to school Mondays and Wednesdays to kill some extra time.

I ran into Matt (aka Melfi) the other day on campus, and talked to him for a couple minutes. I was surprised, considering the number of students there, to see someone I know the first week. Well anyways... I think that's about all
for now. I hope you all have a nice weekend, and I'll be back later. In the meantime, check out the new Bands of the Moment, you can download a whole New Amsterdams album free at their site. Si vales, valeo.

  - Back to School....... -

School starts tomorrow..... so the boring period of sitting around the apartment with nothing to do gives way to the stressful time of starting at a new school, learning the campus, and getting up early as hell to ride the bus. I suppose I'm a little nervous, mostly just about getting the bus to school and getting there on time. I've only taken a public bus once before, and it wasn't the best experience.... I was planning on getting some practice before class started, but due to me being incredibly lazy I never got around to it. So I guess I'll just hope for the best tomorrow. I'm not too worried about classes..... it might be nice to have some interaction with real people instead of just my cat and the TV. After a couple days I'm sure I'll pretty much be used to everything and things will go much more smoothly. Anyways.... wish me luck.... and I'll let you know how things go.

p.s. There's a damn ban on smoking in restaurants and bars in this county. What the hell's up with that? Mike and I went to BW3's to play some golf and it was like torture being in someplace where you're so used to smoking and not being able to. Well I suppose I should try and quit again anyways.... so many reasons to and no good reason not to.

  - Cat in a Drawer -

Mike brought up my new coffee table this weekend, and I pulled out a drawer for Smelly to get into. She likes crawling into stuff like drawers and laundry baskets.......

So Mike starting playing with her, and she decided to try and kill him.
